In 2011-2012 there were 65 SUN Community Schools that served:

  • 23,969 children and youth in ongoing enrolled classes and activities
  • 3,851 adults in adult education, skill-building and school-related classes
  • 97,444 people in community and family events and activities.

Showing Results

Regularly participating students showed strong gains in academics and attendance areas:

  • 76% increased state benchmark scores in Reading
  • 73% increased state benchmark scores in Math
  • Average daily school attendance was 95%
  • 67% improved behavior
  • 76% improved class participation
  • 75% improved in finding alternative resolutions to problems
  • 93% of students have at least one adult who cares about them to whom they can go for attendance
